CHIANGMAI
The city of Chiangmai, approx. 15 kilometres away from the studio, is easily accessible by rail, road and air. Chiangmai International Airport is approx. 12 kilometres away. Flights to Chiangmai from most parts of the world are via Bangkok, though there are direct flights to and from Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong and some other cities in China. Flight time between Chiangmai and Bangkok is approx. one hour.
Chiangmai is Thailand’s second city, and is located some 500 miles north of Bangkok, at the foot of the hills which form the borders with Burma, Laos and China. These hills are the home of a number of hill-tribes whose traditions and textiles are of great interest. The city is also the centre of the old Lanna culture, pre-dating Sukhothai and Siam.
The climate is generally relatively mild, with daytime temperatures averaging around 30°C, and night-time temperatures varying between about 25°C at the hottest time of the year (April/May) and about 18°C at the coolest time of the year (December/January).
