About the house and garden

1
Our house and the studio are located on the edge of Doitam village at the foot of the hills which rise above Chiangmai.  In tranquil natural surroundings, the house and garden are equally perfect for relaxing or for undisturbed work or study.

There are three outbuildings, all traditional converted rice barns, locally known as long khao, offering accommodation for up to eight people.  All sleeping accommodation has air-conditioning and private bathrooms with showers.  All rooms have hot and cold water, a small refrigerator and a kettle.

The recently-completed building at the north end of the garden offers a large open workspace downstairs, complementing the large sitting area upstairs.

The house was featured in Thai House and Garden magazine and voted HOUSE OF THE YEAR 2006.

Rice Barns

There are two rice barns.

One has a twin en-suite bedroom with a private balcony, overlooking a small lake on one side, and the garden on another side.  Simple cooking facilities and a separate toilet are located downstairs.

The other is a larger rice barn, with en-suite bathroom, one double bed and a separate single bed, and can be made into a family room.  The barn overlooks the garden and is next to the main house.  Below is an open sitting area, with further space on the wooden deck between the barn and the main house.

Both rice barns are of teak wood and have been converted sympathetically to offer stylish and comfortable accommodation.
  • Both buildings are on the same site as the owners’ house, but offer plenty of privacy and security.  Access is via the main entrance or via a small private gate.  The buildings are ideal for those visiting Chiangmai and for those wanting a base in Chiangmai for a short term to write, study, explore the area, or simply enjoy living in natural surroundings.
  • Accommodation in these two barns is 1500 baht per room per night, including breakfast.  An additional 200 baht per night will be charged for a child or third person in the larger rice barn.
