WORKSHOPS
“Siripan Kidd has .. established a reputation as an outstanding and inspirational teacher” : Celia Eddy, The Quilter, Issue 80, Autumn 1999
I have considerable experience in teaching workshops and have given them throughout the UK. I was artist in residence at Dartington Hall in Devon for three years in succession, and in a six-month arts project in Milton Keynes. I have also worked with children in schools and have taught in teacher training seminars.
Textile workshops are held all year round in the studio at our house, which is in a village south-west of Chiangmai. Between November and the middle of March, the area is cooler and drier, but not as green and lush as in the months July to September, which is the rice planting season.
We offer textile workshops for individuals or for groups of up to eight people, lasting from one to ten days. The workshops are both residential and non-residential, and I teach most of them. However, workshops where I am not an expert can be arranged provided that there are enough students. The work itself is constructive but flexible enough for students to explore on their own in a different and inspiring environment.
During the stay, students will have the chance to enjoy healthy home cooking which I prepare myself. Other activities provided include Thai traditional massage, yoga, cycling and swimming. This is a unique opportunity to study and enjoy a “sewing retreat”, with the added attraction of access to other textile experts, local makers and designers.
The workshop is also ideal for people interested in textiles who are in Thailand for a short stay or holiday, and who would like to visit the studio and attend a study day or one-day workshop. Transport is provided between Chiangmai and the studio.
